Apply for a building warrant
Do you need a building warrant?
You will probably need a building warrant if you are considering:
- building
- altering
- extending
- converting
- or demolishing a building.
If you carry out work that requires a building warrant without first obtaining a warrant, you are committing an offence. You may be liable to a fine of up to £5,000.
A building warrant is not required for some types of work to certain types of buildings. Building works that do not require a building warrant are detailed in Schedules 1, 2 and 3 in the Technical Handbooks.
