Important information for existing clients

All phone lines in Scotland are being upgraded.

Some of our equipment uses phone lines to work so we so we are upgrading our equipment too.

If you have recently changed, or plan to change, your phone or internet provider or package and we have not upgraded your equipment please email us on midcas_alarms@midlothian.gov.uk or call 0131 270 5691.

Age UK has useful information about the change to telephone lines.


Telecare, also known as community alarms, provides peace of mind for you and your family 24 hours a day.

If your alarm is activated, we will contact your nominated key holder. This is normally a family member, friend or neighbour.

If they are not available one of our local responders will be able to help. We may also contact your GP or the emergency services.

Equipment, sensors and alarms

Fall detectors

  • Personal alarms if you can't get up after a fall
  • Bed sensors or movement sensors if you fall out of bed or haven't moved for a while

Door sensors

  • Door sensors which can help if you forget to tell people where you are going
  • Bogus caller alerts can alert the police if you are worried about someone at your door

Fire and gas detectors

  • Smoke and heat detectors (including flashing beacons, vibrating pager and pillow alerts)
  • Carbon Monoxide detectors if you use gas, coal, oil or wood burning appliances
  • Flood detectors for kitchens and bathrooms

Medical sensors

  • Epilepsy sensors if your GP or Specialist nurse recommends one
  • Incontinence sensors for night time incontinence

Cost

The service costs £4 per week, paid quarterly in advance.
