Description
Modern Apprenticeships in Hairdressing at SCQF Levels 5 & 6. Learners attend only their employing salon and do not travel to Mentor's centre in Edinburgh or to any other college or training facility away from their salon. Mentor visits learners in their workplace every few weeks to support them throughout their apprenticeship. Entry level leading to a Junior Stylist role, after which two to three years of "improving" will lead to a Senior Stylist position. Option of progressing to S/NVQ Level 3 qualification after completing Level 2. Course includes shampooing, conditioning hair, styling and finishing, setting and dressing, hair colouring, cutting, advising and consulting clients, with options that include perming hair, plaiting and twisting, hair extensions and salon reception duties. The qualification is competence-based (time frame for successful completion dependent upon own ability, commitment to learn the supporting knowledge base and opportunities to train and practice in the employing salon) but, as a guide, course duration of 21 months for entrants with no significant prior experience.Enrolment is year round and dependent upon employment within a hair salon. Mandatory entry requirements: none. Desirable entry requirements: a minimum of four standard Grades at General or Credit level. -
