Who should apply?
Anyone who runs a riding establishment. -
Stables which hire out horses or ponies for riding or instruction must be licensed under the Riding Establishments Act 1964 -1970.

Cost
The licence application fee is £147 plus the vet's fee (variable depending on premises). -
Timescales (usual)
The licence is valid from January to December of each year. -
Additional information
An Environmental Health Officer and a Veterinary Officer will inspect your premises before they issue your licence. They will check that the premises and your animal welfare arrangements are suitable. Licences are only granted where premises meet the appropriate standards. -
What you need to supply
Complete the Riding Establishments application form. This must be returned with confirmation of insurance details, copies of any relevant qualifications e.g. Certificate of the British Horse Society or similar instructors' certificates, and the licence application fee. -
