Extending validity of a building warrant - electronic submission
This guidance applies to granted electronic building warrants only.
If you are unsure if your granted building warrant is electronic or paper, please contact us on 0131 271 3350.
A building warrant is valid for 3 years, starting from the day it is granted. You must either finish the work within this period, or apply for an extension of validity of your building warrant.
You must apply to extend the validity of your building warrant before your building warrant expires. However, in cases of hardship, we may accept late applications.
If we extend the validity of your building warrant, the first extension will be for 9 months. There is no legal limit to the number of extensions you can apply for, but extensions of validity are granted at our discretion.
For queries about extensions of validity for building warrants granted before 01 May 2005, please contact Midlothian Building Standards directly.
