Make a Freedom of Information request
The Freedom of Information (Scotland) Act 2002 (FOISA) gives you the right to access recorded information held by Midlothian Council.
There are some restrictions on the information we can provide, for example, if the information is sensitive or the costs to provide the information are too high.
Check existing FOIs first
Our disclosure log lists all our FOI requests since January 2022.
Use the button to check if a similar request already exists, and to submit a new request.
Request access to information (FOI / EIR)
Or make a request by post using our contact details.
Environmental information (EIR)
Your request may be handled under different regulations depending on the kind of information you ask for, such as the Environmental Information Regulations (EIRs).
The law gives you the right to see environmental information collected and held by the Council including things like:
- Air and water quality
- Noise
- Waste
- Radiation
- Plans or activities that affect the above
It will be clear on your response where we have treated your response as an EIR.
What happens next
We will tell you in advance if there is a cost for providing the information.
We will respond to you within 20 working days, although we may ask you for more details first to help us find what you want.
In complex cases we are allowed by law to take up to 40 days, but we will write to you and explain why.
