Active Schools Leadership Academy (ASLA)

  • The Active Schools Leadership Academy is designed to help young people develop experience, skills, and knowledge through sporting delivery.
  • Working with others, pupils will grow their understanding of how to develop communication, organisation, planning, and problem-solving skills.
  • Through training and delivery placement, Active Schools Midlothian can provide the support you need to become a leader!

Apply

  • Applications open in June each year - submit a form to your Active Schools Coordinator or a member of your high school's PE department.

Schedule

  • You will be asked to commit to a full calendar of training and workshops.
  • All training will be delivered at a Midlothian venue and will take place after school on a Friday.
  • Training and placements happen simultaneously, with the course tailored to your availability and suitability.
  • Delivery placements can take place in local primary or high schools.

Benefits

  • The academy is designed to help develop confidence, leadership, communication, problem-solving, organisational, and teamwork skills.
  • You will have the guidance of experienced mentors who will support you during the coaching placement.
  • The academy provides qualifications that will help towards higher/further education opportunities and career pathways into sport.
  • Practical experience delivering sport sessions to primary-aged pupils, displaying and developing leadership skills.
  • Possible employment opportunities or further career development upon academy completion.
