Council Tax charges
2017 - 18
Council Tax is a local charge on all households, and pays for local services. The tax is set by us to fund local services such as schools, libraries, leisure facilities and refuse collection.
The Council Tax year runs from 1 April to 31 March.

Increases
For the financial year 2017-18, Midlothian Council has increased Council Tax by 3%. However bands E to H are also subject to a further rise applied nationally. The final bill includes a charge for your water supply and waste water collection services from Scottish Water, which has also gone up by 1.6%. Midlothian Council is not responsible for setting this charge.
Council Tax bands
The Lothian valuation Joint Board decides which band each home is in. You can check the band of your property on the Scottish Assessors website. If you disagree with the band your home is in you can appeal the decision with them.
