Ironmill Steps update

The council would like to update local residents about the situation with the Ironmill Steps in Dalkeith and the adjoining bridge.

Land slippage

These are currently closed and have been since January 2016 due to land slippage initially caused by severe weather.

Stabilising works

Works have been carried out over the past few years to try to stabilise the slope but unfortunately this has had limited success and movement continues to be an issue at this location.

Safety concerns

Due to safety concerns and the current financial climate there are currently no plans to open up the bridge and pathway in this area.  

Monitoring the situation

We appreciate that the public would like the Ironmills Steps reopened so we will continue to monitor the situation. Meanwhile the public are strongly advised for safety reasons not to access the area of landslip.
