Council announces new fees
Midlothian Council is introducing new fees and charges from 1 April. The increase will raise additional income to help pay for council services.
Transition fund help
At the full Council meeting, councillors approved a report detailing the changes and agreed a one year transition fund to help community event organisers with increased licence costs.
Parking penalty charges
Councillors also agreed to adopt new Scottish Ministers guidance to permit increase parking penalty charges. The new charges will be increased from the current £60 (£30 if paid within 14 days) to the new charge of £100 (£50 if paid within 14 days).
Electric vehicles charges
Other changes include increasing the electric vehicle charges from £0.30 per kWh for rapid charger (over 43kW) to £0.50 and the £0.16 per kWh for destination chargers (22kW and lower) will go up to £0.35. These new charges will start on 1 May.
Garden waste
Meanwhile, garden waste charges will increase from 2024/25 to £40 annually, up from the current £35.
