Councillor Douglas Bowen appointed as new Depute Provost of Midlothian
Councillor Douglas Bowen has been appointed as the new Depute Provost of Midlothian following the resignation of Councillor Connor McManus from the role.
Health and Social Care
Councillor McManus, who was appointed Depute Provost in May last year, will take on the role of Midlothian Council’s Cabinet Member for Health and Social Care, currently held by Councillor Colin Cassidy. In a further change, Councillor Cassidy will assume the Cabinet portfolio for Economic Development, Planning and Transport, currently held by Councillor Bowen.
Prestigious role
Commenting on his appointment, Councillor Bowen said that he was delighted to be taking on such a prestigious role and is looking forward to serving the people of Midlothian in this new capacity.
“I would like to express my appreciation to Councillor McManus for all he has achieved as Depute Provost over the past year, and the support he has given to Provost Debbi McCall,” said Councillor Bowen. “I am honoured that Midlothian Council approved my appointment and I am very much looking forward to taking on this important role representing Midlothian within our communities and further afield.”
Tremendous privilege
The outgoing Depute Provost, Councillor Connor McManus, also expressed his thanks to all those in the council and throughout Midlothian who have supported him in his work over the past year: “It has been a tremendous privilege to serve as Depute Provost and to have been given so much personal support in undertaking my duties,” said Councillor McManus. “I’m confident that Councillor Bowen will excel in his new post and I am really looking forward to being Cabinet Member for Health and Social Care.”
