Public to be asked about resurfacing part of cycle route
The public are to be asked about resurfacing the National Cycle Network Route 196 from Rosewell car park to Old Dalmore Drive, Auchendinny.
Short consultation
At the full Council meeting on Tuesday, councillors approved the short consultation.
Six weeks' work
The route had been due to close for six weeks from Monday 12 June.
Postponed
However, the work was postponed after some users including horse riders, raised concerns about paving the stretch. The feedback was this could make the route slippery for horses in winter and impact the amenity of the area.
To improve conditions
Funded by Transport Scotland’s ‘Cycling, Walking, Safer Routes’ grant, the work aims to improve conditions for users including cyclists, walkers and those with assisted mobility devices.
3.5 kilometre stretch
The public will now be asked if they would like the stretch resurfaced. This 3.5 kilometre section is the only part of the 17 kilometre Dalkeith to Penicuik cycle route without a sealed surface.

The consultation is likely to begin in mid-July with the aim of reporting the findings back to the full Council meeting in August.
