Direct Debit update

Following yesterday’s announcement that Direct Debit payments were collected 2 days earlier than due (today, Wednesday 28 June), we can inform all affected customers that an immediate refund has been issued and should be in their bank accounts already or within the next 2 hours.

Refunds processed today

Banking industry guidance and Direct Debit scheme rules state that where such errors are made, every effort is to be made to refund customers on the same day. With the support of our bank, we have been able to process the refunds today.

Only affects some customers

Please note again that this has only affected customers who have outstanding invoices due to Midlothian Council and who had arranged payment by Direct Debit on the last weekday of the month.

Original Direct Debit date

The new Direct Debit collection date will be as originally scheduled, Friday 30 June.
