Sophie scoops top award in Provost's Christmas card competition
Provost Debbi McCall congratulated the winners of her digital Christmas card competition at a special presentation in the council headquarters in Dalkeith recently.
Lots of entries
Provost McCall said it had been “really tough” choosing from more than 100 entries from primary school pupils across the county.
The finalists
She eventually narrowed it down to three, with P4 King's Park pupil Sophie and her brightly coloured Christmas mug scooping the top prize. Nicole, who is in P7 at Lasswade Primary and Hawthornden P5 pupil Kian were close runners-up with their drawings of the Grinch and a snowy lake.
Great fun
The provost said: “It was a really tough but thoroughly enjoyable choosing a winner from such fantastic artwork.
Capturing Christmas
“The entries were so varied but there was just something about Sophie’s drawing that captured Christmas for me.
Good enough to drink
“Her mug of cream-topped hot chocolate looked delicious and the Christmas colours were lovely. Well done Sophie.”
King's Park pupil
Sophie said she was pleased and surprised to win.
Digital card
Her drawing has since been turned into an E-card that snows and wishes recipients a “Merry Christmas”.
Talented pupils
Provost McCall was also delighted with Nicole and Kian’s art. Nicole drew a “lifelike and cheeky Grinch”, said the Provost while Kian showed great talent with his artwork that “was so snowy and evocative, it made me feel quite chilly”, she joked.
Looking forward
The Provost, who wore her special Christmas gingerbread men dress and the Provost’s chain of office for the photo with the children, said she is looking forward to sending out the winning E-card to all her colleagues and friends.
