New report confirms 94% of young adults from Midlothian are in work, further education or training

Newly released national statistics, from Skills Development Scotland, show that 94% of young adults from Midlothian were in work or had enrolled in further or higher education or training between April 2023 and March of this year.

Annual measure

The Annual Participation Measure reports on the economic and employment activity of 16 to 19-year-olds in Scotland and is the information source for one of the Scottish Government’s National Performance indicators.

Above average

Across Scotland as a whole, 92.7% of young adults are currently participating in education, training or employment. The latest figures put Midlothian 1.3% above the national average.

Positive future

Midlothian Council’s Cabinet Member for Education, Councillor Ellen Scott, said she was “immensely proud” of the recent statistics.

“This is the second year in a row that Midlothian has outperformed the national average, which is a remarkable achievement. I’m delighted that so many young people from Midlothian have once again secured a positive future over the past year, despite the impacts of inflation and the cost-of-living crisis that we have seen during that period.” Councillor Scott stated.

“This achievement highlights the dedication and hard work of our young people, along with the invaluable support from our schools, communities, lifelong learning and employability services, Skills Development Scotland, and other trusted partners.”
