Remembrance events in Midlothian
As the nation falls silent at 11am on Remembrance Sunday, His Majesty’s Lord-Lieutenant of Midlothian, Lieutenant Colonel Richard Callander and Provost Debbi McCall will lead tributes to Midlothian’s war dead by laying a wreath at the War Memorial at Hunterfield Road, Gorebridge.
Paying respects
They will be joined by other service representatives and individuals who will also pay their respects.
Remember their sacrifice
The Lord-Lieutenant said: “It is important that we always remember the sacrifice made by so many servicemen and women who gave their lives in the service of their country. We should also remember the families of those who have died and pay tribute to those who are still serving and are working together for a more peaceful world."
Close connections with Armed Forces
Provost McCall, who will also attend a service at Crichton Collegiate Church on 11 November with the Lord-Lieutenant, said: “With Glencorse Barracks in Penicuik within our county, we have a long tradition of supporting our Armed Forces. Remembrance is therefore especially poignant here in Midlothian. We see it as an important opportunity for us all to pause and reflect on the immense sacrifice of those who have given their lives to protect freedom.
Not forgotten
“It’s an honour to lay a wreath in tribute to all the servicemen and women in tribute to their bravery. They will never be forgotten”
