Turn your recycling into cash!
We're celebrating the launch of a new partnership today with LitterLotto to encourage residents to recycle at home correctly for their chance to win prizes, including discounts and cash.
Bin it to win it!
LitterLotto is a free to enter prize draw for people aged 18 and over. Each month, someone in Midlothian will be chosen at random to win a £100 cash prize.
You could win £1,000
They will also be put into further cash prize draws, such as the weekly LitterLotto UK £1,000 pot.
Turn your Christmas gift wrapping into cash
Cabinet Member with responsibility for recycling, Councillor Dianne Alexander said: “It’s a win, win for local people and the council with the aim of increasing recycling rates and ultimately, helping save the environment and public money. Download the app now and don’t miss your chance to win cash prizes and other discounts for all your Christmas recycling.”
Rewards for recycling
“We’re very excited to launch this partnership, which will see more people use our amazing initiative and be rewarded through the jackpot prizes” added David Landsberg, CEO & Founder of LitterLotto.
Plenty of prizes
By teaming up with LitterLotto, Midlothian residents can also:
- Earn coins for every piece of recycling binned correctly and use them to claim discounts and rewards
- Use the app’s advanced AI technology, which recognises waste types, tells you if the council can recycle it and which bin to use It also gives tips on recycling that item more effectively by, for example, removing tape
- Check your bin calendar dates and get more information on recycling in Midlothian
To enter
To enter residents download the LitterLotto app and scan a picture of their hand with the recycling item hovering over the correct bin.
Simple to use
Cllr Alexander added: “It’s so simple to use We have been looking for innovative solutions to recycling concerns. When we discussed our needs and the needs of the community with the team at LitterLotto, we knew this was an initiative which could benefit all of our residents. We believe this technology can truly change the way we handle waste and help to increase recycling across the area.”
Thanks for helping Bella!
Helping Cllr Alexander with the launch is P4 King’s Park pupil Bella Thomas. Together with her fellow pupils, Bella loves recycling almost as much as Christmas. She recycles in school and even helps with litter picks. Bella is pictured with Cllr Dianne Alexander along with Sam Turton and Andrew Walker from our waste services team.
