Who won our gritter naming competition?
From ‘Frank, Grit the Floor!’ in honour of comedian Janey Godley, to ‘No Ice, Ice Baby’, the 300 or so entries to our gritter naming competition have kept Midlothian Council Leader Councillor Kelly Parry laughing all the way to Christmas.
Difficult decision
However, after much deliberation and with the help of Midlothian Council’s Roads and Transportation Manager Wayne Clark, Cllr Parry has finally chosen a winner.
Top prize
Nikki Martin’s ‘Grit Happens’ took the top prize, beating off competition from entries including ‘Salt n’ Sauce’ and ‘David Ploughy’.
Fantastic entries
Cllr Parry said: “Thank you so much to everyone who suggested such fantastic names as ‘Gritney Spears’ to ‘Spready Mercury’.
Lots of laughs
“We’ve loved choosing and it kept us laughing. After a lot of thought though, we’ve opted for ‘Grit Happens’, so well done Nikki.”
Alpine Coaster prize
Nikki wins a family ticket for two adults and up to three children on our Alpine Coaster ride.
Second gritter
With a second new gritter just arrived, Cllr Parry and Wayne have both agreed to give it a name too – ‘Gritty McGritface’.
More top names
Here are more of Cllr Parry and Wayne’s favourite entries:
- ‘Saltimus Prime’
- ‘Thaw enforcement’
- ‘Sir Alex Ferg-ice-on’
- ‘Nitty Gritty’
- ‘The Grit-est Snowman’
Note
As Nikki was one of three people who suggested ‘Grit Happens’, we used an online random number generator to choose the winner.
