The dinosaurs are coming!

If you are passionate about dinosaurs prepare for some excitement because from Saturday dinosaur models will be popping up around the Dalkeith area!

Bringing dinosaurs to life

The Iconic Bricks Dinosaur Trail is a two-week FREE event running from 1 – 16 February. This family friendly fun trail, will bring dinosaurs to life using model bricks.

Just in time for school break

A great activity to do with family or friends during the school February break.

Showcasing active travel routes in Midlothian

The toy brick dinosaurs will be located near active travel routes and points of interest, intended to showcase some of our active routes available in and around Dalkeith.

Locations

Models will be placed near our National Cycling Route NCR 196, the River South Esk and around the footpaths in and around Dalkeith Town centre. Other models are located at local business, including: Morrisons supermarket, Trek Bike Shop, Newbattle Abbey College and One Dalkeith.

Fun and facts

Visitors and locals will be able to discover 18 brick dinosaur models in Dalkeith including a Stegosaurus, Triceratops and baby dinosaurs. The trail will give an insight into how each model is made and provide interesting facts on these amazing dinosaurs.

Two ways to win prizes

We have 100 toy brick velociraptor kits available to be won, and one special prize, a menacing T-Rex Skull toy brick set! There are 2 ways in which participants can enter to win toy brick prizes of a minifigure velociraptor kit and T-Rex skull:

Dino Trail Quiz

Firstly, by the completion of our ‘Dino Trail Quiz’.

The information cards at these models will not only give interesting facts about the dinosaurs but will also have QR code links that allows participants to access the Dino Trail Quiz, and filling out the answers to the Dino questions. Participants can choose to answer questions as they follow the trail by saving the quiz as you go along, or complete once finished - but don’t forget to note down your answers somewhere!

Dino Selfie Challenge

Secondly, ‘The Dino Selfie Challenge’

By taking a photo with their favourite dinosaur and tagging @ActiveTravelMid when posting on their social media X account (formerly Twitter). This will provide you with an alternative way of entering with a chance to win one of our toy brick prizes.

Locals and visitors to the area encouraged to join

Midlothian Council leader Cllr Kelly Parry said: “This trail has already been held successfully in other areas in Scotland and now we are lucky to be able to enjoy it in Midlothian. It will offer a fun day out for people of all ages and includes some of the post popular and recognisable dinosaurs. I would encourage locals and visitors to join in the trail while visiting local businesses in the area.”

Backed by the Council

The trail is backed by Midlothian Council and funding for the event has been come through the SEStrans People and Places fund.
