Revised scheme for community councils
At the full Council meeting on Tuesday, councillors approved a revised Scheme for the Establishment of Community Councils in Midlothian 2025.
Full consultation
This comes after a full consultation with all stakeholders. The revised scheme includes an update and amendment to the Community Council Complaint procedure to include a third stage – an external review.
Voice of local people
Community Councils act as a voice for their local area, ensuring that the views of local people are heard and considered. They have rights to be consulted and make comments about matters including planning and licensing applications. Midlothian Council supports Community Councils through capacity building staff time and financial assistance.
First revision for more than a decade
The local Scheme for the Establishment of Community Councils had not been revised since 2014, during which time there have been changes to the law and national guidance around community councils.
