MLDP (2017) Delivery Programme for 2025-2027 approved by Council
Midlothian Councillors have approved the draft Delivery Programme for the Midlothian Local Development Plan 2017 (MLDP).
What is MLDP?
The MLDP is the current development strategy for Midlothian and it allocates sites for development, identifies places to be protected, and sets out the policies that will be used when deciding planning applications.
It also helps to guide the location and form of development in a manner consistent with the Scottish Government’s National Planning Framework 4.
Purpose of the Delivery Programme
The draft Delivery Programme covers the period from 2025-2027 and identifies actions and commitments necessary to deliver the strategy of the current MLDP which covers residential, commercial and infrastructure developments.
Delivery Programme updated following Public Consultation
A public consultation was held between 20 December 2024 and 14 February 2025 on a draft version of the Delivery Programme.
Comments received during the consultation period have been incorporated into the final version of the Delivery Programme, which has now been approved by councillors.
What happens next?
Midlothian Council will now inform the Scottish Government and other stakeholders of the approval of the Delivery Programme.
Midlothian residents will shortly be able to find a paper version of the Delivery Programme at their local Midlothian library or an online version on the council website.
How does this impact MLDP2?
The Delivery Programme approved by Council today relates to the adopted MLDP (2017).
Midlothian Local Development Plan 2 (MLDP2) will replace MLDLP (2017) and shape the development and use of land in the area. The annual Development Plan Scheme will be going to Planning Committee on 29 April with an updated timetable for the production of MLDP2.
Until MLDP (2017) is replaced by MLDP2, it will remain the adopted local development plan for Midlothian.
