Council marks International Workers' Memorial Day
Midlothian Council marked International Workers’ Memorial Day today (Monday) at a ceremony in George V Park in Bonnyrigg.
Wreath laid
Councillor Dianne Alexander laid a wreath on behalf of Midlothian Council to remember people who were killed at work, as well as those who have suffered injury, illness or disease through their employment.
Time to reflect
Organised by the Midlothian TUC with support from the council, the ceremony was open to members of the public and staff were encouraged to attend or to take a moment during the day to mark the occasion.
Annual theme
This year’s theme is ‘Protecting workers' rights in the age of digitalisation and artificial intelligence’.
Proud of our involvement
Council Leader Kelly Parry said: “I’m proud of the council’s commitment to this annual ceremony. It's important to remember those who have lost their lives due to work-related illness or injury.
Making workplaces safer
"The service not only offered an opportunity to pay our respects, but to think about the steps that can be taken to make workplaces safer and reduce unnecessary risk and harm going forward."
