Beetles
There are many species of beetles. Some of the common ones we treat are the Hide Beetle and the Carpet Beetle.
Before deciding on a treatment it is important to identify which type of beetle is causing the problem.
Although some products may be effective against various species, use a specimen or photographs to check which it is. You may find what some people call “hairy caterpillars” which are most likely the larval stage of the beetle before it develops into an adult.
Use a trustworthy website to try and identify your specimen such as the British Pest Control Association. We may be able to help if you can provide an undamaged specimen in a crush proof container.
How to treat
Once you have identified the species there are various products available from retail outlets. Please read manufacturer instructions carefully especially if children or pets live in your property.
Before applying treatment in a kitchen, ensure to thoroughly clean any food spillages before applying the product.
How the council treat
Once your beetle or larva specimen is identified, we will treat with products approved under The Control of Pesticides Regulations 1986 as amended.
After treatment you should see a gradual drop in numbers, and you may start to find dead beetles and their larvae.
If deemed necessary, we may apply a further treatment with a different product.
