Our Alpine Coaster
Enjoy the ride of your life on Midlothian Snowsports Centre's latest attraction - our alpine coaster now open.
About the coaster
- It's the first in Scotland
- The overall length of the coaster is 980 metres (315 metres uphill & 667 metres downhill), the equivalent of Beinn a' Chochuill Munro
- The coaster is interactive, riders can slow down their cart
- The coaster ride includes a 360 degree helix
- the vertical drop is approximately 74 metres
- The maximum speed is regulated to 28mph
- Including the ascent, the ride is just over three minutes
Opening times
- Saturdays and Sundays: slots start 10:00, finish times may vary
Tickets
- £7 for single ticket
- £19 for 3 rides ticket (3 rides must be used by same individual)
- Driver + passenger £14 for a single ticket
- Driver + passenger £38 for 3 ride ticket (3 rides must be used by same individuals)

All bookings require to be done either using the Midlothian Sport & Leisure app or website (please do not call the Centre to book).

Download our new sport and leisure app and select club as 'Snowsports' to book and manage your bookings:
Book online
- Use the link below
- Select 'Alpine Coaster' in Activities
- Pick day you want to go - weekends only
- Choose ticket numbers and times before paying
Restrictions
- Participants must be aged over 9 years and 1.4m tall to use the Alpine Coaster on their own
- Children must be 4 years or over to ride the Alpine Coaster. Children aged between 4-8 years old must be accompanied by an older person who is aged over 9 years and over 1.4m tall
- The maximum weight in each cart is 145kg (22 stone, 8lbs)
- Those that are pregnant, or have heart, back or neck conditions, should not ride.

By car
Exit Edinburgh City Bypass at Lothianburn junction. Head for Biggar on A702. We are 1/2 mile from the junction on the right. (Just after The Steading restaurant).
By train/bus
Lothian Buses 4 (from Dalry Road by Haymarket station) or 15 (from Waverley station) to Hillend.
