Clinical and chemical waste disposal

We do not collect clinical waste from households or businesses.

If you have clinical waste, please contact the healthcare professional in charge of your treatment for advice. They will help you make sure it's collected and disposed of properly.

Medical / health care waste

Medical waste includes:

  • used dressings
  • stoma or catheter bags
  • incontinence pads
  • PPE such as plastic aprons or gloves used by personal care providers.

Bag this waste securely and put it in your grey bin.

Sharps

  • Sharps bins can be returned to the vaccination service at Midlothian Community Hospital, 70 Eskbank Road, Dalkeith, EH22 3ND.
  • Please use the Cairngreen entrance to the left of the main entrance.
  • Drop-offs can be made with vaccination service reception staff Mon-Fri 9am to 4pm.

Report used needles in a public place

Important

You must not put plastic bottles containing used needles in your blue bin.

Asbestos

Chemical Disposal

  • Household chemicals such as garden fertiliser, weedkiller, insecticides, biocides, glues, paint and solvents can be taken to Stobhill Recycling Centre for safe disposal.
  • We can collect small amounts of chemicals (up to 10L) from your property.
  • There is a charge for this service to cover the costs of safe collection, treatment and disposal.
  • For a bespoke quotation contact us with full details of the items to be collected - including a photograph.

Human waste

Human waste includes:

  • Urine and faeces
  • Blood

Report used nappies, sanitary products or condoms in a public place.
