We can't accept any:
- asbestos or materials containing asbestos
- commercial appliances eg: retail or display fridges or freezers
- explosives - eg: fireworks or flares
- firearms
- fuel - petrol or diesel
- heavy metals - eg: mercury thermometers or barometers
- oxygen tanks - eg: for scuba diving
If you have any of these items, please contact a licenced specialist waste management company for safe disposal.
Why can't I bring large items to Penicuik Recycling Centre?
To reduce the number of times we need to close the site to swap a full container with an empty one, general waste is compacted or squashed on site. Mattresses and large items will block the compactor. Paint and oil will leak out. Gas canisters pose an explosion risk if compacted.
